PRE Budget*
- Preliminary Round Expenses: Your team’s toy or game must cost no more than $150 to develop up to the submission of the Preliminary Round Entry (PRE). This amount includes donated materials, actual materials, materials in kind, etc. The team might not have spent any money by this point in their design, but if they have, they must keep an itemized expenses list and submit it and receipts (signed off by their coach) with their PRE.
Nationals Budget*
- Nationals Expenses: If your team is invited to attend the Nationals, they are allowed to spend an additional $200 to help develop a working prototype. If the team did not spend all of their initial PRE $150, that money cannot be rolled over and added to the $200. The $200 amount includes all donated materials, actual materials, materials in kind, etc. Teams must keep a list of itemized expenses and show this and their receipts (signed off by their coach) at the Nationals. The team can also, if they wish, spend up to an additional $50 to build a presentation to show their entry at the Nationals. This expense is for all costs relating to other items you may wish to use to showcase your toy which are not the toy itself (such as a presentation board, photographs of the toy being used, etc.).
* Sally Ride Science does not reimburse teams for expenses incurred during the competition. We strongly encourage fundraising as part of the TOYchallenge experience.
