Workshops for Students
Want to learn how to extract DNA from a strawberry? Take a computer apart? Search for life on other planets?
At the festival you'll attend two workshops with a group of girls like you who are interested in digging into science. The workshops are given by amazing veterinarians, rocket scientists, astronomers, microbiologists, seismologists, and more. The list of workshops will be available onlineapproximately three weeks before the festival date. We assign workshops on a first come, first served basis, so register early!
If you register online (when workshops are available) we will send you an email with a passcode and a URL. You can then go to that URL, enter the passcode, and select your workshops.
If you register by phone, fax, or mail, when workshops are available you can email us your choices (rice2008@sallyridescience.com)or call us with your choices (1-800-561-5161). Past festivals have included workshops on:
- Animal Friends (by a veterinarian)
- Colorful Chemistry (by a chemist)
- Star Stuff
And many more!

Workshops for Adults
The Science Festival has a separate track of workshops for parents, teachers (teachers can receive professional development credit), and other interested adults.
You'll attend one in-depth workshop, given by an expert in the field, on topics such as:- Hands-on science for the classroom (for teachers)
- Science Resources for your Daughter (for parents and others interested)
- Gender Equity (issues related to girls in science and math)

- An inspiring talk by astronaut Peggy Whitson
- Discovery Workshops for students, given by local scientists and engineers
(examples include chemists, veterinarians, microbiologists, and others) - Workshops for parents and teachers on ways to support students' interests in science and math
- A Street Fair with booths, hands-on activities, food, and music
Advance registration is required and is $0 (includes the featured talk, workshops, lunch, and the Street Fair).
