Sally Ride Science, an innovative science content company dedicated to fueling students’ interests in science, today announces the creation of an advisory board. The advisory board, which consists of leading education experts and science educators, will provide guidance in the areas of product development and services, and offer a first-hand perspective into emerging science education needs for K-12 schools and districts.

The Sally Ride Science advisory board will provide the company with ongoing advice regarding newly launched school products, as well as future products and services designed for the K-12 school market. It will also serve as a platform for ongoing communication with K-12 and higher education experts.

The 2007-08 advisory board members include:

Jane Gallucci, a member of the Pinellas County Board of Education in Florida, and past president of the National School Boards Association and the Florida School Boards Association.

Paula Levin, Ph.D., a senior lecturer and graduate adviser in Education Studies at the University of California, San Diego, and affiliated faculty in UCSD’s Program in Human Development and Department of Anthropology.

Franklin C. Owens, the associate executive director of programs for the National Science Teachers Association, and former director of the Education Division at NASA headquarters.

Dwight Sieggreen, a science teacher and current member of the National Academies of Science, Teacher Advisory Council, and past president of the National Association of Presidential Awardees for Excellence in Science Teaching, National Middle Level Science Teachers Association, and Michigan Science Teachers Association.

Jo Anne Vasquez, director of professional development, policy and outreach for the Center for Research on Education in Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology (CRESMET) at Arizona State University in Tempe; past president of the National Science Teachers Association and the National Science Education Leadership Association; and the first K-12 educator to become a sitting member of the National Science Board, the National Science Foundation’s governing board.

“Sally Ride Science is committed to creating engaging, cutting-edge science content to help educators develop and broaden students’ conceptual understanding, and to inspire students to want to learn more,” said Dr. Tam O’Shaughnessy, co-founder and chief operating officer for Sally Ride Science. “It is an honor to work with a team of educators of this caliber, who have contributed so much to K-12 education and to improving science education for teachers and students, alike.
